obs_description = This is a doppler color simulation of the Leiden/Argentine/Bonn (LAB) HI survey, the world's first Atlas of Galactic Neutral Hydrogen (1989-2005). RGB+Alpha channel version, use CDS Aladin for optimal compositing results (not suitable for Stellarium). Different colors indicate hydrogen emission at different velocities (doppler effect), effectively demonstrating how HI gas moves across the sky at different speeds. This lets you see inflows/outflows and high-velocity clouds for example. The original dataset holds HI cloud speeds from -460 km/s to +460 km/s. This HiPS shows speeds from -257 km/s (approaching, white > cyan > blue) to +372 km/s (receding, white > yellow > red). The original dataset was largely captured with the Dwingeloo Radio Telescoop (RT), which is now a national monument managed by https://camras.nl. The RT is open for visits and demonstrations.
